Welcome to OweLog! We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal information is handled in a safe and responsible manner. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share your information when you use the OweLog mobile application (the "App").

By using OweLog, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect several types of information from and about users of our App:

A. Personal Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, age, phone number, and/or email address (if you register using Google Sign-In).
  • Financial & Transaction Data: Information about the money you lend or borrow, including amounts, dates, status, and custom notes or descriptions you add to transactions.
  • Legacy Protocol Data (Nominees): If you use the Legacy feature, we collect the names, phone numbers, and emails of the nominees you designate to receive your financial reports in the event of your death or incapacitation.

B. Device and Technical Information

  • Device Identifiers: We collect your Device ID and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token to identify your device for security purposes and to send you push notifications.

C. Permissions and App Access

To provide the core functionalities of the App, OweLog may request the following permissions on your device:

  • Contacts (Read/Write): We request access to your device's contact list. We securely upload contact names and phone numbers to our servers strictly to help you identify which of your contacts are also using OweLog, and to easily link them to your lending/borrowing transactions. We do not sell or share your contacts with third parties.
  • Notifications: We request access to send push notifications to alert you about transaction updates, payment reminders, and Legacy Protocol triggers.
  • Internet: We require internet access to securely sync your data with our backend servers.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data for the following purposes:

  • To Provide and Maintain the Service: To track your lending and borrowing transactions.
  • To Facilitate the Legacy Protocol: To contact your designated nominees and share your financial reports if the Legacy condition is triggered.
  • To Deliver Notifications: To send you OTPs (One-Time Passwords) for authentication, payment reminders, and system alerts.
  • To Improve the App: To analyze usage patterns and improve user experience.
  • To Ensure Security: To prevent fraud, enforce our Terms of Service, and secure your account (e.g., using PIN verification).

3. How We Share Your Information

We take your privacy seriously and do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following scenarios:

  • With Other Users: When you transact with another user, they will see your name, phone number, and the transaction details.
  • With Your Nominees: If the Legacy Protocol is triggered, your financial summary reports will be downloaded and shared with the nominees you explicitly designated.
  • With Service Providers: We use trusted third-party services (e.g., Firebase, Google Cloud, SMS gateways) to power our App's backend, notifications, and OTP services. These providers are bound by strict confidentiality agreements.
  • For Legal Reasons: If required by law, court order, or governmental request.

4. Data Security

We implement robust, industry-standard security measures (including data encryption in transit and at rest) to protect your personal data, transaction history, and PIN hashes. However, please remember that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your data only for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Services.

How to Request Data Deletion:

You have the right to request the deletion of your account and associated personal data. You can delete your account directly within the App's Settings/Profile section, or you can contact our support team to request permanent data deletion. Once requested, your personal data, transactions, and synced contacts will be removed from our active servers.

6. Children's Privacy

OweLog is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will immediately delete this data from our servers.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App and updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy.
